Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty in Boca Raton, FL

A flat and toned abdomen is something we all attempt to obtain through diet and exercise. The impact of pregnancy, weight fluctuations and even aging can cause women and men to lose their desired body shape and lead to excess skin and stretched abdominal muscles. An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a highly sought after cosmetic surgery procedure which repairs and enhances both the aesthetic and structure of the abdominal area. The tummy tuck procedure addresses the weakened or separated abdominal muscles, removes excess fat and skin and leaves the patient with a slimmer, tighter, flatter stomach.

Dr. Dabbah’s Approach to Tummy Tuck

The main goal of an abdominoplasty is to obtain a flatter and more contoured abdomen. As in all the surgery he does, Dr. Dabbah approaches abdominoplasty with the individual in mind. He addresses the consultation and surgery with the patient’s specific areas of concern, as well as their health and lifestyle.

Abdominoplasty is not just about fat and skin removal. It also repairs the weakened abdominal muscles. The stretching and pressure exerted on the abdominal wall as a result of pregnancy and significant weight gain weakens the abdominal wall. Once stretched the muscles can no longer give the contour to the stomach that we all strive for. No amount of exercise can strengthen them. A protruding stomach causes the skin to stretch which in turn, causes loose, drapey skin. Abdominoplasty is the perfect solution to these problems.

What Are the Two Types of Tummy Tucks?

A full abdomnoplasty is ideal for patients who have significant weakness of the abdominal wall above their naval. During a full tummy tuck, Dr. Dabbah will make a low and well-placed incision that extends from one hip to the other, allowing him to access the underlying muscle structure up to the sternum. Dr. Dabbah directly excises the fat he sees, eliminating the need for liposuction. He cuts away the fat and skin from the naval to the bikini incision and redrapes the tissue and skin from above the naval.  Dr. Dabbah creates a new, aesthetically pleasing belly button that is in harmony with the newly toned and rejuvenated abdomen.

A mini tummy tuck is a great option for patients who have excess skin or muscle protrusion of the lower abdomen, below the naval. Compared to the full abdominoplasty, the mini tummy tuck is more limited in scope, and the incision is shorter. During the procedure, Dr. Dabbah will make a precise incision that allows access to the targeted area. The mini tummy tuck allows for a bit easier and shorter recovery. The mini tummy tuck is an attractive option of patients whose problem is the lower abdomen.

From the first time I spoke to Michelle, I knew this would be a good experience. Dr. Dabbah was friendly, warm and knowledgeable. He put me at ease and thoroughly explained my upcoming procedure. All staff were warm and friendly. I recommend Dr. Dabbah highly."

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Abdominoplasty?

During your consultation with Dr. Dabbah, he will review a detailed medical history to ensure that you can safely undergo and recover from abdominoplasty surgery.

Abdominoplasty candidates should be at or near their goal weight by the time of the surgery. They should be in good overall health. Dr. Dabbah will not operate on a person using nicotine, whether it’s smoking, vaping, patches or gum. They must quit all nicotine for at least two months prior to their surgery and continue refraining from nicotine for the duration of the healing phase, at least 6-8 weeks. This is to promote optimal wound healing. The patient should inform Dr. Dabbah of any blood thinners they are on as well as hormone therapy.

For patients who have hernia surgery with a general surgeon, Dr. Dabbah coordinates the elective, cosmetic abdominoplasty at the same time. It is important to note that abdominoplasty surgery is not intended to help patients lose weight. Dr. Albert Dabbah finds the joy of this procedure is observing his patients gain the confidence of having the body they hoped for. Time and again, he sees men and women tend toward a healthier lifestyle, both in diet and exercise.

What To Expect from Tummy Tuck Consultation?

The decision to undergo a plastic surgery procedure can be difficult and should not be approached lightly. Consequently, Dr. Dabbah strives to establish an environment where patients never feel pressured but are informed, listened to, and guided.

During your consultation, you will meet with Dr. Dabbah, who reviews your medical history and engages in a discussion about your goals and reasons for the abdominoplasty. He will do a physical exam of your stomach and address your questions and or concerns and describe in detail the process of surgery and recovery. You will have the opportunity to look at patients before and after photos and review costs of surgery. Dr. Dabbah always offers to patients the opportunity to contact previous tummy tuck patients to discuss their experiences

Abdominoplasty for Men

Some men find it difficult to tone their excess stomach fat or protruding abdomen, even with a regular exercise routine and healthy dietary lifestyle. This laxity in the abdominal wall and muscle can be direct result of weight fluctuation or age. A tummy tuck for men can dramatically change ones physique and self-confidence, helping you feel healthier and look younger.

In addition to removing excess skin and fat, the weakened abdominal wall is also tightened, which redefines the shape of the midsection. Similar to a female abdominoplasty, the excess skin and fat are removed from the belly button down, and the skin and tissues are re-draped.

What Happens During a Tummy Tuck Recovery?

Our patients should expect to take two to three weeks off from work. The first week is the toughest but we do want our patients to be up and walking in your home a bit. Surgical drains are place during surgery and they come out approximately one week postop. You may find that you are unable to stand straight up, but this eases over the days and first weeks of recovery. You will have a surgical binder to provide abdominal support. Dr. Dabbah will prescribe medication to help with the pain associated with the abdominoplasty.

Two to three weeks following surgery, you will start feeling stronger.  Swelling will start to reduce. Exercise and lifting weights over 10 pounds should be avoided. If you have small children or pets, we recommend enlisting a caregiver during this time. Full exercise and activity may be resumed at approximately 6 weeks postop.

Follow-up monitoring is essential for abdominoplasty recovery and Dr. Albert Dabbah prides himself on being available to his patients throughout the process. Dr. Dabbah will schedule several follow up appointments beginning within a week of surgery. He continues to oversee the healing process on a weekly to bimonthly basis. This way he can monitor your progression as well as to assure proper healing of the scar.

Tummy Tuck in
Boca Raton, Florida

A tummy tuck can be one of the more painful operations a plastic surgeon does. Dr. Dabbah performs tummy tucks in the hospital as an overnight stay so that he can monitor the patient’s pain and he can visit the patient the same evening and following morning.

What determines whether the abdominal muscles or 6-pack abs show is the amount of fat, including the BMI of the patient.

Dr. Dabbah always repairs the muscle. During pregnancy and weight gain, the abdominal wall weakens and stretches causing muscle separation. To achieve a flatter stomach, the muscle needs to be repaired along with the removal of the stretched skin and excess fat. This adds to the contour of the body that men and women look for.

During the tummy tuck, Dr. Dabbah also releases the belly button. As he pulls the skin down, he makes a new hole to bring out your belly button and sulure il in place. Wilh Dr. Dabbah, you can expect a small, well-designed, belly button.

Dr. Dabbah’s primary concern is patient safety. He takes great pride in all his surgery, and tt are no different. He is known for his closures and to achieve this perfection takes time. Depending on the particular patient, the surgery can take four hours. Adding substantial sculpting increases the number of hours under anesthesia. Dr. Dabbah does not do, typically, liposuction during tummy tuck because of known complications, however, he does directly excise the fat.

Dr. Dabbah does insert two drains in the pubic areas. He removes them a week after surgery.

Dr. Dabbah uses dissolvable sutures along the incision line of the tummy tuck and belly button. When he removes the drains, he removes the stitches that hold the drains in place.

It is paramount that you choose a board-certified plastic surgeon from the American Board of Plastic surgery, the only recognized board for plastic surgeons. The surgeon should do tummy tucks regularly and have examples of his work to show. The patient should feel confidence in the surgeon.

A tummy tuck is not designed to take off weight, although depending on the amount of skin and fat removed, the patient may notice a difference. A tummy tuck will help to sculpt the body and flatten the stomach. Following tummy tuck surgery, patients find they are more motivated for a healthier lifestyle.

Yes, you can get pregnant after a tummy tuck. Dr. Dabbah advises postponing a tummy tuck, if possible, until you are done having children as the abdominal muscles will be tight as your stomach expands. You may also develop skin and tissue laxity as well as separation of the abdominal muscles following pregnancy.

There are many positive attributes to a tummy tuck. A flattened and tight stomach from the muscle repair, a more contoured body from removing the fat and skin and a small belly button. And, of course, increased self confidence.

As Dr. Dabbah advises patients, every patient is quite different in their tolerance to discomfort or pain. Generally speaking, the first week following surgery may be difficult, but Dr. Dabbah will prescribe medication to help to alleviate much of the discomfort. Once the drains are out, our patients tend to recover rather quickly. We advise no driving for two weeks and no exercise for six weeks.

The patient will notice an immediate difference between pre and post treatment. However, abdominal swelling does take a few months to start to show the actual contour you will enjoy going forward.
