Liposuction

Liposuction in Boca Raton, FL

Liposuction is a procedure targeting pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. The intention behind liposuction is to give greater contour to areas of the body which do not respond to traditional diet and exercise. Fat removal can be performed on areas of the body including the abdomen, waist, flanks, hips, outer thighs, upper arms, back and under the chin. An additional advantage to liposuction is that the fat can be grafted to enhance other areas of the body, such as the face, or divets in the contour of the body.

What is Liposuction And Which Method Does Dr. Dabbah Use?

Liposuction is a procedure designed to contour a patient’s figure by removing stubborn pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. Liposuction is not a weight loss method, nor is it an alternative to a healthy active lifestyle. Liposuction aims to improve a patient’s natural contour and is ideal for patients who are at or within their target weight.

There are different types of liposuction techniques and Dr. Albert Dabbah, after careful consideration, chooses either the traditional liposuction or the power-assisted liposuction, using the tumescent technique, depending on the area and amount to be treated. Tumescent fluid is placed in the area to be liposuctioned and consists of local anethesia and epinephrine. This helps in reducing postoperative pain and minimizes bruising and bloodloss. The power assisted technique helps in areas of dense fat, for example, the chest and lower back.

Dr. Dabbah’s Approach to Liposuction

In the preoperative holding area, Dr. Dabbah marks the areas to be treated while the patient is alert and able to confirm. Liposuction is typically performed under sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Dabbah creates small incisions in the targeted area. With a small hollow tube called a cannula, Dr. Dabbah gently breaks up and removes the loosened fat.

The length of surgery, from one hour to four hours, depends on a number of factors; the amount of fat to be removed, the number of areas of liposuction and whether or not the patient needs to be turned. Once complete, the patient is bandaged and taken to the recovery room. When alert and responsive, the patient can be driven home. It is preferred that the patient have a friend or family member help at home for at least a day or two.

What Procedures Can Be Combined with Liposuction Surgery?

Liposuction is among the most popular cosmetic procedures performed around the world. Every year thousands of men and women turn to this body contouring procedure to target problem areas for better contour.

One reason is liposuction may be combined with other procedures or surgery to enhance the aesthetic of other areas of the body. Dr. Albert Dabbah will always opt for patient safety first and will inform the patient if, in fact, it would be safe to combine liposuction with the additional procedure requested. Determining factors include the length of surgery of both procedures and the kind of surgery being requested.

Liposuction Recovery Long Term Results

When you awake from the procedure you will be bandaged appropriately. You may experience tenderness, bruising and swelling. The swelling will increase over the following few days then start to subside. We encourage our patients to get up and move around as much as reasonably possible to ensure good circulation. Strenuous activities are discouraged until Dr. Dabbah sees you for your postop appointment.

At the postop appointment, he will review what activities are permitted. He or his staff will help you into your garment, which is to be worn as much as possible for two to three months. Dr. Dabbah will continue to see you over the course of months to follow your recovery and transformation.

The results of your liposuction depend largely on maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle. While the fat cells that are removed during liposuction are eliminated permanently, the remaining cells in the body can still grow as your weight increases, negatively impacting your results.

Excessive movements will promote more swelling, so refraining from exercise for a few weeks is encouraged.

You can expect the results to last a long time as long as you maintain your weight and a healthy lifestyle.

Liposuction removes fat cells in the area treated. It does not cause fat to grow in other areas. Gaining weight will exaggerate the fat in other areas not treated by liposuction.

Generally, liposuction is not very painful. Most patients are sore. I relate soreness to a workout. Some areas are more tender, for example, the lower back.

You can sleep in any comfortable position.

Liposuction specifically removes fat. A tummy tuck removes fat and skin and tightens the abdominal muscles.
